A founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Sam Nkire, has said that bringing Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso back into the party would guarantee President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2027 election.

In a statement on Sunday, September 21, Nkire urged the president to do everything possible to reconcile with Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in 2023.

Nkire explained that he supported Kwankwaso in the APC presidential primaries of 2014 against Muhammadu Buhari, noting that both of them regularly visited Tinubu to seek his backing, Vanguard reported.

He added:

"President Tinubu should have no issue negotiating with Kwankwaso, being buddies and aware of the reason Kwankwaso defected from the APC to start with."

Nkire recalled Tinubu, then APC National Leader, having rejected their desperate pleas that he support Kwankwaso, bluntly asserting,

"I'm sorry, I have given my word to General Buhari."

Nkire pinning hopes on Tinubu's negotiation prowess

Negotiating terms of Kwankwaso's probable return or entry into the APC, Nkire was optimistic about Tinubu's political and business negotiating prowess, Guardian reported.

"I have faith in President Tinubu's negotiating and deal-making skills whether political or commercial," he said.

Nkire continued:

"This is surviving and will justify my conviction that the next president would be a product of either collusion, merger, or coalition.".
