Police Finally Arrest Notorious Man Terrorising Lagos Island: "Justice Will Be Served"

Lagos state - The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Samsideen Oladiti, aged 55, popularly known as “Shamelon”, in connection with two violent crimes on Lagos Island.

Specifically, the cases bother on murder and another of assault occasioning harm.

A statement released via X, Shamelon, is currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, for discreet investigations.

Police: Recent attack leaves victim hospitalised

Narrating, the police said on Wednesday, 17 September, at around 3:00 pm, the suspect allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, using a helmet and his fists to inflict serious injuries.

The victim was rushed to hospital, placed on oxygen, and is currently receiving medical treatment.

Police recount earlier assault leading to death

Another complaint was lodged on 18 September 2025 relating to an incident that occurred on 28 August 2025.

During the altercation, Oladiti allegedly struck a man repeatedly on the head and face with a metallic ring. Despite medical intervention, the victim died on 17 September 2025, and his body has been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.

Protest erupts following victim’s death

Sympathisers of the deceased staged a violent protest at the suspect’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, setting two motorcycles belonging to the suspect ablaze and causing unrest in the area.

Lagos State Command Police Commissioner, CP Olohundare Jimoh, led personally mobile policemen, regular officers, and tactical squad to the scene.

The police also added that peace was instantaneously restored and assured citizens that the suspect is in custody and will be prosecuted as soon as possible once investigations are over.

CP Jimoh urged members of the public to remain calm, law-abiding, and not take the law into their own hands.

"We wishes to assure members of the public that justice will be diligently pursued in all the cases against the suspect," he said.

He further called on the locals to assist the police in conducting the investigations, assuring that justice will be pursued relentlessly in all the cases against the suspect.

Police clear Pastor Adefarasin in gun video

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock faced questions after a video showed him holding what looked like a gun, sparking strong reactions from Nigerians online.

The Lagos State Police Command later said he was not guilty of any crime. They explained the object was a stun gun, not a firearm. Police added that Adefarasin appeared voluntarily for questioning.

Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi said no one is above the law but confirmed the matter has been closed. The decision has stirred mixed reactions, with some Nigerians asking if stun guns are now allowed.
