Commission reiterates commitment to credible polls
Reaffirming its transparency pledge, INEC emphasised that recruiting qualified ad-hoc staff is central to ensuring credible elections.
“INEC is making your votes count by consolidating democracy,” the commission said.
Advocate stresses safety, welfare, and career pathways
A youth development advocate, Ajidahun Dipo-Daniels, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the vital role of young Nigerians, particularly corps members, in its newly announced recruitment drive for ad-hoc staff.
“These young people deserve priority consideration in permanent recruitment, not just temporary engagement. They bring with them not only experience but also the passion of a generation that is most vocal in demanding change and accountability in our democracy,” he told Legit.ng.
While stressing the importance of youth involvement, Dipo-Daniels warned that recruitment alone would not address the challenges faced by ad-hoc staff.
“Security and welfare must remain central. Too often, young election workers face risks of violence, intimidation, or delayed entitlements. INEC, in partnership with security agencies, must strengthen protective measures, improve rapid response in volatile areas, and guarantee prompt, transparent payment systems,” he noted.
He further argued that valuing the contributions of young Nigerians goes beyond token engagement during elections:
“By valuing youth experience, prioritizing their safety, and rewarding their sacrifice with real career pathways, INEC can both strengthen its workforce and inspire greater trust in Nigeria’s democratic process.”
Dipo-Daniels described this as the type of “forward-looking policy action that empowers young people and secures the credibility of elections.”
INEC chairman asked to resign
On the heels of controversies surrounding the last presidential election, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the resignation of Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
Atiku, who made this call in a statement released on March 5, through media aide, Phrank Shaibu, said the chairman of the electoral body should be man enough to own up to his failure.
INEC releases details of voter registration

The electoral body said 4,445,505 Nigerians had pre-registered online in four weeks since the exercise was launched on August 18, 2025.
