Breaking: 17 People Crushed to Death in Tragic Car Crash as Details Emerge

Zamfara state - The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Zamfara Command, has confirmed that 17 people died in a tragic car accident.

FRSC explained that a commercial bus rammed into a collapsed bridge in the Gwalli area of the state.

The Public Education Officer of the command, Isah Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau on Monday.

Zamfara accident: Victims mostly women

Aliyu explained that the 18-seater bus crashed into the collapsed bridge and killed 17 people. He added that many of the victims were women.

He added that residents then resorted to placing sandbags in order to allow motorists to cross, Vanguard reported.

Sadly, the FRSC, said the driver unknowingly drove straight into the remains of the bridge, which led to the fatal incident that caused 17 deaths.

On his part, the commander warned commuters against late-night travel and overloading.

He emphasised the need for motorists to confirm the condition of major roads before embarking on long journeys, Daily Trust reported.

He added:

“We advise all road users to seek proper information about roadworthiness and exercise caution, particularly at night.”

FRSC's rescue efforts commended

Ma’aji thanked community members and stakeholders who rushed to the scene to rescue some survivors of the crash.

“Their swift response helped to save lives, even in the face of tragedy,” he noted.

12 people in Kano road accident

12 passengers were confirmed dead in a fatal accident that occurred at Samawa village in Garin Mallam local government area (LGA) along Zaria- Kano Expressway.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano state command disclosed that the lone crash which occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 15, 2025, also caused injuried to five individuals.

Abuja-Keffi road: Many feared dead in fatal accident

Previously, Legit.ng reported that a fatal accident has reportedly claimed the lives of many people at the Karu bridge along the Abuja-Keffi expressway. It was gathered that the accident involved a trailer and a vehicle conveying sachet water, commonly referred to as 'pure water'.

Emergency responders are reported to be at the scene of the accident. The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed at the time of filing this report. The accident comes barely 24 hours after a fatal crash claimed lives at the same location and has raised concerns over road safety along the busy corridor.

The FCT Emergency Management Department has said no lives were lost in the accident. The FEMD spokesperson, Nkechi Isa, said the accident involved a J5 sachet water truck and a Dangote trailer. Isa explained that the driver of the sachet truck sustained injuries and had been taken to the hospital.
