Easter 2026: Federal Government Declares 2-Day Public Holiday, Shares Details

Abuja, FC - The federal government has declared Friday and Monday, April 3 and 6, 2026, as public holidays for the celebration of this year's Easter. April 3 is Good Friday, and April 6 is Easter Monday.

This was announced in a statement by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, on Wednesday, April 1.

The minister then congratulated the Christians in Nigeria and the world at large on the occasion. He urged Nigerians to reflect on the virtues associated with the Easter celebration, Channels TV and BBC Pidgin reported.

Tunji-Ojo then called for unity among Nigerians and stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence among each other. He added that Easter is a period that reminds us of the values of community and tolerance that keep the people together as a nation.

The minister added that the federal government is committed to making policies that are directed toward national development. He then wished the Christian a joyous and peaceful Easter celebration.

The statement reads in part:

“The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter."

FG declares Eid al-Fitr holiday

Legit.ng earlier reported that the federal government has announced Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, as public holidays in celebration of the end of Ramadan, known as Eid al-Fitr, a popular Muslim festival.

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of the Interior, announced the development in a statement on Tuesday, March 18. The statement was signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

The minister extended his warm greetings and heartfelt message to the Muslims for the successful completion of the Holy month of Ramadan and urged them to sustain the virtues of generosity, love, tolerance, peace, and sacrifice, which were projected during the period.
