Lagos: Fake Army Major Arrested Inside Popular Market, Police React

Ikeja, Lagos State - The Nigerian Army of the 9th Brigade, Ikeja, Lagos State, nabbed and handed over an individual, Animashaun Khalid, impersonating an Army Major with a forged identity card to the police.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Lagos State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, which was shared on the official X.com page of the force on Monday, August 25.

Legit.ng gathered that the suspect was apprehended at the Arena market in the Oshodi area of the state, with a fabricated army ID card with his name on it and the rank of Major by soldiers and was subsequently handed over to the police.

The statement reads:

The suspect was apprehended at the Arena Market, Oshodi, with a forged Nigerian Army identity card bearing his name and the rank of Major by soldiers and was immediately handed over to the Lagos State Police Command in a seamless operation, underscoring strong inter-agency collaboration."

Lagos command begins thorough investigation

According to the statement, the case was sent to the Special Squad 1 of the force to carry out a comprehensive investigation to reveal details of the forgery, accomplices and other possible crimes perpetrated using the ID card.

"The case has since been assigned to Special Squad I to conduct a thorough investigation aimed at tracing the source of the forgery, identifying accomplices, and determining whether the suspect used the fake identity to commit other offences. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the case would be charged to court accordingly," the statement reads.

The command's Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, commended the Nigerian Army for their quick arrest and handover of the suspect.

He emphasised that cooperation between security agencies is key to fighting crime effectively.

The CP also encouraged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious behaviour, noting that ongoing teamwork between security forces will keep boosting safety in Lagos State.

Police probe missing valuables from Lawyer's car

Legit.ng previously reported that the Kano state police command has launched an investigation into an allegation of theft by Barrister Ahmad Sani Bawa, a lawyer in the state, who claimed that the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) stole a sum of N950,000 and a valuable wristwatch from his car after the agency impounded it.

The state command's police public relations officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the development in a statement.

The spokesperson confirmed that the state's commissioner of police, Ibrahim Bakori, has ordered the questioning of all parties involved following the complaint.
