Arewa Progressive Vanguard (APV) has frowned on the attacks on the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Adedapo Segun.
The northern sociopolitical network group urged individuals, groups, and associations to refrain from further attacks on Segun.

Some groups dragged Segun to court and queried the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for not including him in its ongoing probe of the mismanagement of the Port Harcourt refinery funds.
The group lambasted those calling for Segun’s resignation, warning against distractions and fanning the ember of ethnic crises.
As reported by The Sun, Alhaji Idris Musa, Global President of APV, made this announcement in a statement issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The northern group said Segun, who is the NNPCL Chief Financial Officer, deserves every sense of calmness, serenity, and peace to perform optimally well in his duties.
“We read a few days ago, where one group was even accusing the EFCC of selective probe. They alleged that it was because Mr. Adedapo Segun is a Yoruba man that’s why the anti-graft agency secluded him from the ongoing probe.”
The Arewa group said the comment is myopic, insensitive, and highly inflammatory and should not be coming from a northern group.
Musa said corruption does not know tribe or region, and the group is sure that if Segun is culpable, the EFCC won’t let him go.
“We therefore call on those fanning the ember of ethnic crises to refrain from it forthwith. We have been there before, and we can’t afford another civil war in Nigeria. We should be patient with the institutions empowered for investigations and prosecutions. We should desist from social media trials and distractions. Such an office of the CFA is very sensitive and key to national economic growth. We should not use our hands to destroy our own legacy and institution.”
The Arewa group, however, said Segun will not be spared if investigations find him culpable.
But for the main time, “people or groups should not be allowed to be used as tools for blackmail and saboteur”.
Why Port Harcourt Refinery is not for sale
Recall that the NNPC Limited announced that there will be no sale of the Port Harcourt Refinery, which has been speculated in the media.
The GCEO, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, is optimistic that the refinery will work and spoke on a partnership to complete the upgrade.
The Port Harcourt refinery complex has a total capacity of 210,000 barrels per day, which includes an old 60,000 and a newer 150,000.
EFCC places ex-NNPC boss on watch list
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, is reportedly being investigated by the EFCC.
The anti-graft agency has placed Kyari on its watchlist over the ongoing probe into the $7.2 billion refineries’ turnaround maintenance.
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has earlier ordered a temporary freezing of four bank accounts linked to Kyari over allegations of fraud.
