Ebonyi: Egumkpuma, Ekembe Villages Sacked in Land Dispute, 7 Killed as Residents Beg Gov Nwifuru

Ivo LGA, Ebonyi state - At least seven people have been killed in renewed violence between two communities in Ivo Local Government Area, following a land dispute that has displaced scores of residents.

A resident, who spoke with Legit.ng on condition of anonymity, described the attacks as brutal and widespread, leaving both Egumkpuma and Ekembe villages “completely sacked.”
"Seven people have been killed so far. An aged man was brutally hacked down in his compound in Egumkpuma. His grandson was also killed in similar manner. Also, another young man was killed on the same day in the same community. This happened on August 4," the resident said.
"A similar act happened in Ekembe, a neighbouring village. The attackers killed a woman who went to harvest pepper on her farm. Three other people were killed and burned in a house."
Ebonyi land crisis: Gov Nwifuru urged to intervene
The resident called on the state government and security agencies to urgently intervene to end the bloodshed and resolve the dispute.
He told Legit.ng:
"The state government, security agencies should urgently come to our aid to ensure an amicable resolution of the land dispute. Our people are dying, and two villages of Egumkpuma and Ekembe, have been completely sacked. We need the help of the government. We need the help of Governor Francis Nwifuru. As I speak to you, my mother and family are displaced."

Controversy surrounds death of Ebonyi indigenes in Anambra
Legit.ng previously reported that the Leadership of Anambra-based Ebonyi State indigene speaks to address the controversies surrounding the death of some of its members who were gruesomely murdered by yet to be identified assailants during their monthly meeting, which was held on Monday, June 30, Ogboji, Orumba South local government area of Anambra state.
Legit.ng gathered that some gunmen, on Monday evening, invaded the Ogboji area of the state, killing 10 people, as confirmed by the Anambra State Police Command. The victims were reportedly members of an association of Ebonyi indigenes holding their monthly meeting in the area.
Flood wreaks havoc in Ebonyi
Legit.ng also reported that a catastrophic flood has claimed eight lives in the Enohia Itim community of Afikpo Local Government Area, Ebonyi State, following days of relentless rainfall.
The tragedy, which unfolded at a plantain plantation, has left the region reeling from loss and destruction.
The Public Relations Officer of the Afikpo Council, Mr. Sunday Nkama, confirmed the incident, stating that the flood devastated over 800 farmlands and directly affected more than 800 residents. He disclosed that three bodies had been recovered, while five individuals remained missing. Among the deceased were three children.
