Katsina state - Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has announced a three-week medical leave to attend to health concerns.
The leave is set to commence on Monday, 18 August 2025, according to a statement from the Commissioner of Information, Bala Salisu Zango.

Deputy governor to assume duties
During his absence, Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal, also known as Sarkin Fulanin Jobe, will assume the responsibilities of the governor in an acting capacity.
“To ensure seamless governance and continued leadership, Deputy Governor Lawal has been designated to lead the state during my medical leave,” Governor Radda said.
Governor emphasises gratitude and commitment
Governor Radda expressed appreciation for the support and prayers of the people of Katsina State.
“Taking the necessary steps to prioritise my health is essential so I can continue to serve effectively and make the best decisions for our state. I look forward to returning to my duties as soon as I finish my medical check-up,” he added.
He also affirmed his confidence in his deputy, stating,
“I am confident that the Deputy Governor will lead and manage the affairs of the state with the same dedication and commitment.”
Assurance of renewed service
In his message, Radda thanked citizens for their understanding and continued support.
“I remain committed to returning to serve the people of Katsina State with renewed energy and dedication after this medical leave,” he concluded.
Taraba gov declares spiritual walfare over deputy's illness
Previously, Legit.ng reported that Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba state has taken what he calls a “spiritual action” over the prolonged illness of his deputy, Alhaji Aminu Alkali, telling residents in a statewide broadcast that “this is not a political matter but a human one.”
Specifically, he urged citizens to “lift him in prayers” for a speedy recovery. Speaking on the matter for the first time on Monday, August 11, Kefas acknowledged concerns over the state being without an active deputy governor for several months.
Drawing from his military background, the governor invoked the spirit of esprit de corps, standing together in service without regard to religion, ethnicity, or background. He revealed that Alkali fell ill while on official duty.
