“Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been arrested by the DSS,” Ibrahim quoted the governor as saying.
Intelligence-led operation hailed as a victory
Governor Bago attributed the successful operation to precise intelligence gathering and praised the professionalism of the DSS operatives involved. He described the arrest as a “huge victory” for both the people and the government, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to national security.
“This is a huge victory for us as a people and as a government. President Tinubu deserves commendation for this cheering news. Abba’s arrest demonstrates the President’s commitment to ending insecurity and promoting the well-being of Nigerians,” the governor stated.
Federal security appointments credited for success
The governor also lauded recent federal appointments in the security sector, particularly within the DSS, suggesting that these changes have bolstered the fight against terrorism. He emphasised the importance of strategic leadership and operational competence in achieving such results.
“It takes a tremendous degree of intelligence and competence to capture a high-profile terrorist like Abba without firing a single shot. Where there is a will, there is always a way. Mr. President has consistently shown that will-power, which is why we are recording such successes,” Bago said.
Niger state pledges continued collaboration
Governor Bago reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to eradicate terrorism across the country. He stressed that sustained cooperation and intelligence-sharing are key to maintaining peace and security in the region.
The arrest of Abubakar Abba is expected to deal a significant blow to the Mahmuda terrorist network and may pave the way for further operations aimed at dismantling extremist groups operating in Nigeria.
