FCT, Abuja - The federal government has announced two key decisions regarding ValueJet’s Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba, following their recent one-month suspension.

Recall that the KWAM 1, a famous fuji singer was almost run over by ValueJet pilots during a kerfuffle with officials of the airline at the airport.

The artist in a statement also insisted that, contrary to media reports, he was the victim, not the aggressor, in the now-public incident.

According to a detailed incident report filed by Captain Ranti, the pilot in command of ValueJet Flight VK201 to Lagos, the drama began when Kwam 1 approached the aircraft holding a gold flask.

As is standard practice, ground personnel were requested to inspect the flask to confirm its content. But the singer allegedly refused, insisting they had no right to question him.

Subsequently, the federal government ordered a thorough investigation into the incident at the Abuja airport, while seizing the licences of the involved pilots and banning the famous fuji star for six months..

1. Licences to be restored after ban

Days after the unfortunate incident, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, made a public announcement that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will reinstate the pilots’ licences once their one-month ban is over.

The minister, while making the announcement via X on Wednesday, August 13, said:

“In the case of Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and the co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba of ValueJet, the NCAA is to restore their licences after the same period of one-month ban,” Keyamo stated.

2. Mandatory professional re-appraisal

Keyamo furthermore noted that before returning to duty, the pilots will be required to undergo a compulsory professional re-appraisal to ensure full compliance with aviation standards.

“They will resume only after completing some mandatory professional re-appraisal. The details will be announced by the NCAA,” the minister explained.

Keyamo emphasised that these measures aim to uphold safety standards and reinforce professional discipline within the aviation sector.

Ibom Air reacts to viral video of 'unruly' lady

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Ibom Air's management said that the airline did not made public the widely-shared footage of a customer being hauled off an aircraft indecently.

The clarification was made by Aniekan Essienette, group manager of marketing and communications at Ibom Air, in response to the controversy surrounding the incident that has taken over social media.

In an interview, Essienette stated that although the footage was captured on the aircraft, Ibom Air's employees did not record or distribute it.
