Afenifere’s Endorsement of Peter Obi: APC Makes Crucial Revelation

  • The endorsement of PeternObi of Labour party by Afenifere has been rubbished by The APC campaign council
  • According to the council, the endorsement is not from the Yoruba group but from Pa Ayo Adebanjo who is a single person
  • Onanuga said although Adebanjo is free to support whomever he likes, he cannot turn the Yoruba group into a personal franchise

In a statement that will annoy supporters of Peter Obi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council has claimed that the Labour party presidential candidate has not been endorsed by the Afenifere, the Yoruba socio-cultural group.

According to the APC campaign council, Ayo Adebanjo’s endorsement of Obi is a personal decision, The Cable reports.

Recall that in July, Adebanjo said only the LP candidate would govern independently “without the influence of these criminals in the government”.

Reacting in a statement, The Nation Newspaper reports that Bayo Onanuga, APC campaign director of media and publicity, said Adebanjo does not speak for Afenifere.

He said:

“Papa Ayo Adebanjo does not speak for Afenifere. He is free as an individual to support anyone he likes, in furtherance of his democratic right.
“We know for a fact that Baba has turned Afenifere into his personal estate as Acting Leader. We are also certain that there was nowhere Afenifere, as we know it, met and took a decision to adopt Mr. Peter Obi as a candidate for the 2023 presidential election.
“We respect the age of Baba Adebanjo but he can not turn Afenifere into his personal franchise for any political alliance. We are very much aware that Baba Reuben Fasoranti, the real leader of Afenifere had stated clearly that Pa Adebanjo has always been speaking for himself on many national issues using the name of the group.

“It is our well-considered position that Pa Adebanjo cannot appropriate Afenifere. Baba is just an individual who is free to support any politician of his choice. As an individual, he cannot equate himself with the socio-cultural and socio-political organisation.”

Jonathan sends strong, powerful message to Nigerians ahead of 2023 elections

Meanwhile, ahead of the 2023 general elections, former President Goodluck Jonathan has charged Nigerians not to make the mistake of voting those he described as killers into elective positions.

He gave the charge on Sunday, September 25, in Uyo during a special interdenominational service to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom state.The ex-President commended the state governor, Udom Emmanuel for his developmental strides in the South-South state.

He recalled that when the ex-governor, Godswill Akpabio was leaving office, there was uncertainty over the performance of Emmanuel who was the Secretary to the State Government at the time. Although Emmanuel veered into politics from the private sector, Jonathan maintained that Emmanuel has done well within seven years in office.

Reno Omokri hails Jonathan Over Tinubu’s visit

In another development, Reno Omokri has hailed the political maturity of former president Goodluck Jonathan.

Omokri praised Jonathan following the recent visit of Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate, to his residence.

Going further, Omokri claimed that the former president was the best leader Nigeria ever had.
