Lecturer, Student Shot Dead as Gunmen Raid College of Education in Southwest State

  • A lecturer at the Michael Otedola College of Primary Health Education (MOCPED) in Lagos state, Ahmed Saheed, has been killed
  • Within 48 hours of Saheed's murder, a student of the college, Razak Bakare, was also shot dead on the campus

Epe LGA, Lagos state - Ahmed Saheed, a lecturer at the Michael Otedola College of Primary Health Education (MOCPED) in Epe local government area of Lagos state, has been shot dead.

Daily Trust reported that the lecturer was said to have been killed around Poka town in Epe.

An undergraduate student of the college identified as Razak Bakare was also shot dead on campus.

The newspaper added cited a police source as saying both incidents occurred within 48 hours interval.

Traditional rulers confirm deaths

It was gathered that the deaths of the lecturer and the student were confirmed by lawmakers and traditional rulers of the communities.

They said while the student was trailed and killed on Wednesday, November 17, the lecturer was shot dead on Friday, November 19.

Presently, there is uneasy in the academic community of Poka, according to the Aladeshoyin of Odo-Noforija, in Epe Division.

Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja, the traditional ruler of the community, has expressed sadness over the incidents.

He said the peaceful nature of Noforija town had been shattered by the unfortunate killings.

Traditional ruler recommends security measures

Oba Ogunlaja called on the management of the institution to install Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras within and around the school premises.

The monarch also appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu, to deploy more security personnel in the community.

He asked the Lagos state government to reconstruct the collapsed fence of the institution.

Also speaking, the Alara of Ilara Kingdom, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, condemned the incidents and urged the law enforcement agencies to fish out the perpetrators

He also pledged that the traditional institution would ensure that all efforts were taken to fight against such an ugly trends in the community.

Crack down in Lagos as police raid training camp, arrest 108 naval impersonators

In other news, no fewer than 108 suspects allegedly impersonating men and officers of the Nigerian Navy have been arrested by the Lagos state police command.

The state commissioner of police, Odumosu, said the suspects were arrested during a raid on their training camp in the Ogudu-Sanfield area of the state.

While parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Odumosu said the commanding officer of the training camp, Sunday Dakare, was also arrested, adding that the suspects were operating under the name of the Nigerian Merchant Navy, also called the Coastal Defence.
