Glo Extends Cultural Commitment, Renews Ofala Festival Sponsorship
Telecommunications giant, Globacom, has reaffirmed its support for the 2025 edition of the Ofala Festival, scheduled to take place in Onitsha, Anambra State, this October.
The Ofala, a revered cultural ceremony performed annually by His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, will run for two days with the Iru Ofala on October 17, followed by the Azu Ofala on October 18.

Globacom, the principal sponsor of the festival, during a press briefing convened by the Ofala Festival Organising Committee at Ime Obi, the Obi’s Palace in Onitsha, on Thursday, highlighted its consistent support for the celebration since 2011. The company noted that its commitment is driven by its belief in Nigeria’s cultural wealth and its ability to generate employment, stimulate tourism, and boost the economy. It reiterated its resolve to elevate Ofala to global prominence.
“In 2025, Nigeria’s tourism sector is projected to contribute ₦11.2 trillion to GDP, up from about ₦10.9 trillion in 2024. Domestic tourism expenditure is also expected to be around ₦6.1 trillion, while international visitor spending is forecast at about ₦803.2 billion. These figures show not only recovery from the disruptions of recent years, but strong growth. They underscore a simple truth: culture and tourism are not luxuries, they are vital to our economy, our identity, and our future.
“Globacom is committed to pushing that future forward. Our support for Ofala is part of a broader belief that investment in culture yields returns beyond the balance sheet. It builds communities, jobs, local businesses, pride,” the company stated.
The company further revealed that it was introducing special initiatives alongside this year’s sponsorship to excite its customers. “We are designing a special package for our subscribers. We are Continuing aggressive roll-out and upgrade of network infrastructure across Nigeria, in particular to 4G-LTE in zones like the South East, so that all our subscribers will enjoy enhanced experience on the network on both voice and data services.
Globacom also spotlighted two recently introduced offers designed to deliver greater value to subscribers: the Talkmasta plan, which provides extra talk time and data at no extra charge, and the Welcome Bonus, which rewards new customers with generous benefits on joining the network.
According to Mr. Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, Chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, the 2025 Ofala will begin with the annual lecture series on October 7. Other highlights include the Oreze Art Exhibition showcasing works by Nigerian and African artists, the Ofala Youth Carnival on October 15, a medical and wellbeing outreach, the Iru Ofala on October 17, Azu Ofala on October 18, and a Royal Banquet in honour of Igwe Achebe on October 22.
