Take a Look at 5 MTF Alumni Making Waves in the Film Industry
The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) academy has become an incubation hub for birthing Africa’s new generation of maestro filmmakers, storytellers, cinematographers, and entrepreneurs.
The academy has been in the business of training and upskilling talented young persons who have a knack for filmmaking and storytelling since 2018 and has ensured that three cohorts of aspiring filmmakers have gone from just dreaming to making their dreams a reality.
Some of its alumni have gone on to create outstanding works and bagged major nominations and awards including, the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), for their creatively curated projects. Here’s a spotlight on some of the academy’s famed alumni who are currently rocking their careers.
1. Allen Onyige
Allen’s stint at the MultiChoice Talent Factory has shaped his life in no small measure. He has evolved from the relatively unknown cinematographer seeking a big break for his dream role as a film director to co-producing the widely-watched MNet series, Elenini.

The Rivers State indigene was a member of the first cohort of the MultiChoice Talent Factory in 2018 and earned an AMVCA nomination in 2022 for his documentary Sunset in Makoko. Allen has shown that besides learning about the technical aspect of filmmaking, he is capable of handling the business side too as he currently runs his own content creation company Anecdote.
2. Gilbert Bassey
Gilbert Bassey is an avid storyteller who finished as the best graduating student of the inaugural MultiChoice Talent Factory cohort. He won a scholarship at the prestigious New York Film Academy as a result of his impressive performance at the academy.

Bassey who can be described as a man of many talents, has proven his mettle as a writer, songwriter, musician and filmmaker. He has written three novels, directed a short film - Ananze and the Zipman - which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime and recently released an extended playlist, Sweet Serenity. The daring young man ventured into entrepreneurship and is currently the Managing Partner of ALC Media, a media company.
3. Moses Akerele

Moses Akerele who is nicknamed ‘Ogbeni Mo’ is a fast-rising multimedia personality who is making his mark as a presenter, actor, writer and filmmaker. He rose to prominence after starring in the widely-watched series MTV Shuga, as Khalil.
He made his directorial debut in 2019, directing his short film, Closure, and Africa Magic's Life of BIM. The latter earned him a nomination at the 2020 AMVCAs. He has worked as a presenter for several media houses including Yaw Naija TV, Silverbird TV and Rhythm FM.
4. Adeniyi Joseph
Joseph is a passionate storyteller and a versatile filmmaker who has worked as a Producer, Director, Cinematographer and Editor on a range of projects in Nigeria. The MultiChoice Talent Factory alumnus currently plies his trade as the Creative Director of Nostalgia Media Agency. He co-produced and directed the widely-watched MNet series, Elenini, alongside a fellow MTF Academy alumnus, Allen Onyige. He also takes credit for producing and editing the AMVCAs nominated feature project, Life of BIM, which screened on Africa Magic as well as many short films and tv commercials.
5. Abisola Aboaba
Abisola is a Nigerian filmmaker who is passionate about creative cinematic storytelling. He was the best graduating student of the Multichoice Talent Factory Class of 2020 which earned him the grand prize of a 3-month scholarship at New York Film Academy.

Abisola is a versatile creative. He wrote, starred and directed the experimental silent short film, Full and Free that screened at film festivals such as the 38th edition of the Canadian Screen Award, the inaugural editions of the Annual film mischief, Rendacon animation, visual effects film festival, and the 2022 First-time Filmmaker Sessions. His short film, Bride Untangled, earned a nomination at the 2022 AMVCAs.
