It requires all Nigerian graduates under the age of 30 to serve in states outside their origin, fostering cross-cultural understanding and civic responsibility. The scheme includes a three-week orientation camp, primary assignment in various sectors, and community development service.

Participants, known as corps members, contribute to education, health, agriculture, and public service across the country. NYSC remains a cornerstone of youth engagement, aimed at rebuilding national cohesion and preparing graduates for leadership and employment.

Step-by-step guide to register for NYSC

Legit.ng earlier reported that the NYSC remains a very important programme in the country. The Nigerian government started it to engage graduates in nation-building.

Established in 1973, NYSC aims to promote national unity and cohesion by deploying young Nigerian graduates to different states for a one-year mandatory service. The program provides an opportunity for graduates to gain work experience, contribute to national development, and foster cross-cultural interactions.

However, the scheme has also generated controversies in recent years, with many stakeholders calling on relevant authorities to scrap it.
