Four Ravaged Northeast States Get N1.5Bn Bailout

Issac Adewole, the minister of health, has disclosed that the federal government has set aside N1.5 billion as immediate relief to be distributed among the four state of the northeast that have been ravaged by the activities of Boko Haram.

The health minister made this known on Monday, January 11, in Gombe state while on assessment tour of health facilities in the state and also explained that he was in the state on a mission as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of federal government’s effort to upgrade health facilities in the affected states, Peoples Daily reports.

He said: “The N1.5 billion is money appropriated by our ministry as immediate relieves to take care of our people in the four states of Adamawa, Borno, Gombe and Yobe. We will use it to upgrade health care facilities and make sure that our Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) get the needed attention.”

James Pisagi, the acting secretary government who received the minister on behalf of the state government stated that the minister visit was timely considering the current state of health facilities in the state which he stressed has been stretched as a result of increase in number of displaced persons from neighbouring states.

Pisagi called on the government to do more in the state especially in managing Snake Bite Centre and other primary health facilities in the state.

He further noted that the state is at a receiving end following the activities of Boko Haram sect and the increase of inflow of internal refuges from neighbouring states as a result of the insurgency.
