Presidency Convoy Opens Fire On Protesting OAU Students In Ile-Ife, Osun

Protesting students of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) have held a presidential convoy hostage in Ile-Ife, Osun State in the morning of May 22, 2014, Thursday.

Hundreds of students, who participated in #OAUsaysNO rally, blocked the 6-vehicle convoy, led by a bullet-proof Toyota SUV.

The leading vehicle, plate number ‘Presidency’ FG902-B02, attempted to clear the way for other cars through the crowd of protestors, who were voting against drastic increase of fees by the management of the institution. The rates have been increased from N17,000 to about N100,000.

Security personnel have fired several shots in an attempt to disperse the raging students.

The witnesses informed PremiumTimes via phone that two students have been wounded as the result of “sporadic” shots fired.
