President Buhari To Attend Summit In India

On Tuesday, October 27, President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja for New Delhi, India, to take part in the 3rd Summit of the India-Africa Forum.

According to a statement issued by Femi Adesina, the special adviser on media and publicity to the president, on Sunday, October 25, in Abuja, the aim of the summit is to boost socio-economic development in Africa and India.

Adesina revealed that President Buhari, the Indian prime minister, Narendra Modi, and other participating heads of state would discuss such important questions as climate change and international terrorism.

The spokesman added that the world’s leaders would also discuss measures aimed at boosting joint collaboration to accelerate the socio-economic development in Africa and India.

Ahead of the opening of the summit on Thursday, October 29, President Buhari will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi and other senior Indian government officials.

Before returning to Abuja on October 30, Buhari will also meet with chief executive officers of Indian companies with existing or prospective interests in Nigeria.

Buhari will be accompanied by the governors of Kano and Delta states, as well as the national security adviser, Babagana Monguno.

The president’s delegation will also include permanent secretaries in the ministries of defence, power, communications technology, agriculture, foreign affairs and industry, and trade and investment.

A month ago, President Buhari took part in the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Addressing the international community, the president promised that his government would address the problem of capital flight and oil theft which seriously affected the Nigerian economy.
