Sham Bride Arrested Found Guilty of 4 Fake Marriages

A 22-year old bogus bride, Raquel Neto Furtado De Andrade, was arrested at the registry office just before she was trying to marry her fourth husband from Nigeria.

She was one of the most prolific fake brides in the UK, charging cash for giving a chance to these Nigerian man to stay in the UK.

She is charged with bigamy – two counts, facilitation – 2 counts and perjury – 1 count and will now serve a two-years sentence behind bars and deported back to Portugal (she is Portuguese) upon her release. De Andrade admitted the charges in February and on Tuesday, March 4

The groom was expelled from the UK soon after the arrest. He was a 32-year old Nigerian national. Now the police are looking for three other husbands to deport them from the UK.

Most brides of these fake marriages come from Eastern Europe, while grooms arrive from Nigeria, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Officials are taking serious steps in controlling and reducing this number. All the registrars of the UK are co-operating reporting any suspicion over a new couple.  According to the leader of Harrow council, all the registrars have been trained to uncover and report ungenuine marriages. A jail term for those found guilty is a clear warning.
