Gov. Fashola immortalises victims of 2002 Ikeja blast.

The Governor led guests on January 27, 2014, Monday, to observe a minute silence in honour of over 1,000 victims of the horrible incident, exactly 12 years ago.

He said such a tragedy in the Oke-Afa canal was avoidable if the authorities in charge had been alive to their responsibilities.

Gov. Fashola lamented, saying the incident prompted his government to intervene by rebuilding the schools and hospitals located within the Ikeja Cantonment which were destroyed by the incident.

The Governor further blasted the Federal Government for turning a blind eye to roads in the area, which, according to him, were damaged by the activities of tankers lifting fuel from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s depot in Ejigbo.
