Mansur Tanko Set Himself Ablaze In Jalingo After Argument Over Marriage
On Friday, Mansur Tanko, 21, set himself ablaze in Jalingo, Taraba State capital. The young man had a disagreement with his father Tanko Mijinyawa who refused to endorse his son's marriage, saying the girl, Blessing, was not a good choice.
The incident was confirmed by Taraba Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Kwaji, who added that the matter is being looked into.
Apparently, the young man's father failed at convincing his son to find another girl to marry: Mansur Tanko still insisted he could not survive without Blessing.
After leaving his father's side, the young man went to a corner in the compound, poured petrol over his body and set himself on fire.
According to eyewitnesses, efforts to save Tanko's life proved to be futile as they could not reach him because of the flames.
Tanko's father is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, for injuries sustained while trying to rescue his child from the fire.
