Gunmen storm banks in Kaduna, kill three policemen.

The gunmen who invaded the area started shooting sporadically to scare residents. They allegedly moved on to rob three commercial banks and took away millions of naira.

Olufemi Adenaike, the Commissioner of Police, confirmed the attack by a group of the gunmen armed with heavy weapons and Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs).

He said the police lost three men, but also killed one of the gunmen while others escape with bullet wounds.

The Commissioner assured that the Police would do all within their powers to apprehend the criminals.

However, Olufemi Adenaike insisted that no money was taken from the three banks by the assailants as a result of strong resistance from his men.

According to a resident of the area, who spoke to LEADERSHIP Weekend, the gunmen were able to penetrate the banks and carted away money and other valuable goods. The bandits also attacked some homes in the area and made away with their valuables.

Another source said: “The assailants who we suspected to be terrorists gang had upon arrival, open fire on the town, and used same weapon to rob the First Bank branch in Saminaka.”

Meanwhile, additional forces of police and army have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
