Ondo Court Jails ‎Killers Of Former FUTA VC

A chief magistrate court sitting in Akure, Ondo state, on Wednesday, July 1, jailed the two suspected killers of former Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade.

In a report published on Sahara Reporters, the two suspects were both arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel and were charged of robbery, murder, and conspiracy.

The first suspect, Daniel Ita, was a security guard, and the second, Olayemi Bamitale, was a former driver to the late Professor of Veterinary Medicine.

It was gathered that the Chief magistrate, Victoria Bob-Manuel passed her verdict despite the suspects’ plea and tears during the court proceedings.

Speaking during the court proceedings, police prosecutor, Isah Atanegbe, explained to the court how the accused carried out their murderous acts.

The offences, according to the prosecutor,  was contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

Atanegbe said: "That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the 21st June 2015 at about 9pm at No. 1 Ikere Street Ijapo Estate commit felony to wit: murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 324 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

"That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did kill one Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade by jointly strangling him to death and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319 of Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

"That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did conspire together to commit felony to wit: robbery and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 403A of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006.

"That you Daniel Ita Effiom and Olayemi Bamitale on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district did rob one late Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade Rav 4 Jeep 2008 model with registration number Lagos GGE-589-CF valued yet unknown and the sum of seven thousand naira property of late Professor Albert Adeoye Ilemobade and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 401 of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006."

Atanegbe, however, sought for an adjournment to the case to enable her duplicate the case file for legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

In her verdict, Chief Magistrate Bob-Manuel ordered that the two accused persons should be jailed in Olokuta prison while the case awaits trial.

She adjourned the case till September 18, 2015.

Professor Albert Ilemobade, was abducted by the suspected killers last Sunday, before his decomposed body was found in an isolated store in his house.
