UPDATED: 11 Boko Haram Suspects Arrested In Adamawa, Two Of Them Died
Commanding Officer of Special Operations Battalion in Mubi, Lt. Col. Beyidi Martins, confirmed that 11 Boko Haram suspects have been arrested on Saturday by a vigilante group in Michika, Adamawa. Two suspects died.
Martins said the suspects were arrested by men of the battalion and JTF from Maiduguri with the assistance of civilian JTF.
Six of the suspects were taken to Maiduguri by the JTF, five - to Mubi. Four of the five suspects taken to Mubi were manhandled by the civilian JTF when they resisted arrest. Two of the suspects died due to injuries.
“Two others died today (Sunday) of injuries. We now have one still alive and is being interrogated,” Martins said.
A resident, Josiah Moses, told Premium Times said the civilian JTF accompanied by soldiers stormed Michika looking for suspects alleged to have run to Michika from Bama town in neighbouring Borno state.
“The civilian JTF arrested about 17 people and some of the suspects who swore by Holy Quran of their innocence were set free,” the eye witness said.
Adamawa is one of the three states under emergency rule for more than three months, since 14 May 2013. Boko Haram’s insurgency has killed at least 3,600 people dead since 2009, including killings by the security forces.
