Police Arraign Worker For Alleged Misappropriation Of N1. 6m

A former worker of Barata Pharmaceutical Company, Kubwa, FCT, Michael Chinwenyba, 32, on Thursday appeared in a Senior Magistrates’ Court for alleged criminal misappropriation of N1.6 million company money.

The police prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anibo, told the court that one Agboye Olarewaju of No 20, Emaka Nwosu street, Trademore Estate, Lugbe, Abuja, reported the case at the Lugbe police station.

He said the complainant alleged that between January and April, the company entrusted pharmaceutical drugs worth N1.6 million in the care of the accused.

Anibo alleged that the accused sold the goods and dishonestly converted the amount to his personal use.

He said that during police investigation, the accused was unable to give a satisfactory account of the money.

Anibo said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 309 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, he shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Senior Magistrate Nafisat Ibrahim admitted the accused to bail for N100,000 with two sureties.

Ibrahim ordered that the sureties must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court. He adjourned the case to Sept. 5 for hearing.
