Man Rapes His 10-Year-Old Niece Inside Lagos Mosque

A 32-year-old man, Uwem Femi Asuquo, has been arrested for allegedly raping his 10-year-old niece inside a mosque.

According to a Vanguard report, Femi had taken his niece to live with him on Lagos-Abeokuta road, to help ease the burden on her family after his brother, her father, died in 2012.

Unknown to the mother of the girl, Iya Tope, her brother-in-law was allegedly sexually abusing her little daughter between 2012/2013 when he was taking care of her.

The 10-year-old girl later started living with her grandmother in the Okunola area in Egbeda.

Femi’s evil deeds would have gone unnoticed if not for his insatiable sexual desires.

On that fateful day, he had gone to the victim’s house, only to discover she was now living with her grandmother. He immediately went to the house and took his niece to the mosque where he allegedly raped her.

The little girl was said to have sustained injuries in her private parts and had difficulty walking as a result of the rape.

Trouble started for the suspect after the girl revealed to her mother that her uncle had taken her from her grandmother’s house to the mosque where he raped her. She also revealed that Femi had been abusing her throughout her stay in his place.

The mother then reported the case to the Gowon Divisional police station, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The case is currently being investigated by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.

The alarming rate at which adults sexually abuse little children is becoming a cause for concern. No week goes by without a child being raped by a trusted relative or neighbour. Some days back, an 11-year-old girl, Anwulika Nathan, from Owo-Ahia Afor in Obingwa local government area of Abia state was raped to death.

The Abia state police command recently arrested a 75- year-old herbalist, Odinkemere Ogbuehi, who took a 12-year-old boy without the consent of his parents and raped him anally for three days.
