Nigeria’s former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has reportedly picked the expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the 2015 general election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Premium Times reports.
Buhari, who officially, declared his intention to run for the country’s number one seat in less than 24 hours, is contesting for the same position for the fourth time.
The former head of state immediately after picking the nomination form at the National Secretariat of the APC in Abuja complained that the N27.5 million earmarked on the form was too much but had no choice other than to pay it. He reportedly tried to solicit for a reduction but was turned down by the party leaders.
“It’s a pity I couldn’t influence this amount to be put down as in the case of ladies and the disable that intend to participate. I always look left and right in our meetings but I could not read sympathy, so I kept my trap,” he said.

The presidential aspirant further revealed that he felt heavily sorry for himself to have went ahead to obtain the form because he did not want to go back to start looking for somebody that would help him pay the said amount of money as he had always like to pay for the nomination form by himself.
“N27 million is a big sum, thankfully I have personal relationship with the manager of my bank in Kaduna and I told him that very soon the forms are coming, so, whether I am on red, or green or even black please honour it otherwise I may lose the nomination. I was about to go to Kaduna this morning and I told the Chairman but he said in that case, you better pick your form and keep a straight face that means there is no excuse,” Buhari said.
Speaking at the secretariat during the incident, John Oyegun, the National Chairman of the party in a short remark explained to Buhari and his allies why the form is on the high side.
Mr. Oyegun disclosed that the party decided to make the nomination fees high in order to separate the men from the boys.
Meanwhile, the former head of state who officially declared his intention to run for the seat in Aso Rock in February 2015, on Wednesday (October 15), has been under a lot of criticism lately over his ambtion to run for the presidency. It would be recalled that the Director of Media and Strategy of Great Nigeria Movement (GNM), Edozie Okeiyi, publicly addressed General Muhammadu Buhari regarding his intention to seek presidency in the next year’s elections.
Also, another chieftain of the party, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on September 24, 2014, also declared his intention to contest in the 2015 general polls under the platform of the APC. He reportedly picked up the presidential nomination form some days ago.
