The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Governor Yahaya Bello as chairman of a seven-man committee to reconcile all the aggrieved parties and individuals for the party ahead of the area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The letter appointing Governor Bello was signed on Sunday, May 30 in Abuja by the national secretary of the party, Senator John J. Akpan Udoedehe, and seen by Legit.ng.
Nasarawa state governor Engr. Abdullahi Sule was also named a member of the committee, while Hon. Olaide Akinremi will serve as secretary.
The Bello-led committee is expected to reconcile factions of the party in the FCT in line with the provisions of the APC’s constitution and template for the reconciliation/mobilization committee.
The letter noted that:
"The committee is expected to identify persons who may have taken issues with the conduct of the exercise(s), the issues in contention (if any) and take practical steps to conciliate and harmonize all such persons and issues in time for a satisfactory outcome in the FCT area council elections."
Meanwhile, a new group within the ruling party known as the APC Legacy Awareness & Campaign has emerged.
In a statement sent to Legit.ng on Friday, May 28, the group stated that some of the problems confronting Nigeria like many other nations were not created by the APC.
The group also announced that it will embark on showcasing the national and sub-national achievements of APC administration with facts and empirical evidence, on weekly basis.
In a related development, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River, on Thursday, May 27 said he joined the APC for the benefit of the state.
Ayade said this while addressing APC youth groups who held a rally to welcome him to the party at the governor’s office in Calabar, the state capital.
The governor recently defected to the APC after almost a decade as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
