Top Government Officials, Service Chiefs, Others Storm Late COAS Attahiru's 3-Day Prayer

- The 3-days prayer for the late Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru was held on Monday, May 24

It was an outpour of eulogies for Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru as government officials, dignitaries attended the three-days prayer for the late chief of army staff who died along with ten other officers.

The prayer was conducted by the director of Islamic Affairs, Nigerian Army and the Chief Imam, Brigadier General Shehu Garba Mustapha on Monday, May 24, at the Staff Flag House, Niger Barracks Asokoro, Abuja.

This was made known in a statement by Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, the director of army public relations, shared on the Facebook and Twitter pages of the army.

Legit.ng gathered that Mustapha prayed to God to forgive the shortcomings of the departed souls and grant them eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus. The Imam also asked God to console the families, friends and colleagues.

According to him, the death of Attahiru and others will not be in vain.

Dignitaries present at the occasion included the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, minister of defence, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (Rtd), and former minister of interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau.

The event was also attended by top government functionaries, principal staff officers from defence, army and services headquarters, among several others.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Attahiru and other officers who died in the plane crash were laid to rest at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja on Saturday, May 22.

Honour guards performed the 21-gun salute for the late COAS at the graveside. A live video from the burial ceremony of the deceased heroes was posted on the Facebook page of the Nigerian Army.

While funeral rites for the late COAS and six other officers took place at the National Mosque, Abuja, the rites for four others was held at the Nigerian Air Force Protestant Church.
