Governor El-Rufai Discloses What Southeast Should Do to Win 2023 Presidency

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has advised the southeast region to aspire for the presidency through a political process, rather than resorting to threats.

According to The Punch, El-Rufai gave the advice on Wednesday, May 6, at a webinar organised by the Africa Leadership Group.
The governor explained that politics has to do with negotiations and convincing others to vote for you.
He said:
‘’I don’t think anyone has stopped the South-East from going for the Presidency. But you see, you cannot get the Presidency of Nigeria by threats or by shouting victimhood. This is a political process and you have to engage other parts of Nigeria to convince them to support you.’’
PM News reported that El-Rufai disagreed with the approach the southeast is taking in its quest for the presidency, noting that threats of secession will not benefit the aspirations of the zone.

He said:
The presidency is not by allocation. It is the result of a political process. You join a political party, your party negotiates with other parts of the country and it happens. That is how it is done. And you cannot get it by sitting down or threatening secession. It won’t work.''
Meanwhile, Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, says he will cease to be a Nigerian if Bola Tinubu, the national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), becomes president in 2023.
George also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos state governor and his alleged involvement with a tax firm named Alpha Beta Consulting, The Cable reported, citing an Arise TV interview on Friday, May 7, as its source.
Although Tinubu, a former Lagos governor, has not yet expressed his interest in running for office in 2023, many of his supporters have been urging him to contest the presidency.
