The Guardian is reporting that associates of All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have flooded the northeast geo-political zone with over one million five-kilogramme bags of rice.

According to the supporters of the APC national leader, the foodstuff, meant for distribution to the vulnerable, is to cushion the ravaging hardship in the region.

Flagging off the exercise in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, one of the organisers, Dahiru Hammadikko, said the gesture was courtesy of Tinubu’s associates in the 19 northern states.

His words:

“The gesture is to honour the national leader of APC, due to his philanthropic disposition, which is why the rice was branded with his image.
“Today, we are flagging off the distribution of 5kg of rice to Nigerians from the northern region. We are targeting one million beneficiaries in the 19 northern states and the FCT. But here in Adamawa, we are giving over 10,000 people.”

On Nigeria's biggest social media forum, Nairaland, Nigerians are commenting on the gesture by the associates of the APC national leader.

A Nigerian with the moniker, Grace001 wrote:

“This is why they (oppressors) don’t want the status quo( social condition) to change. The Nigerian system is designed to keep the masses in abject poverty. The demonic Nigeria system needs at least 70% of the masses to remain in abject poverty.

“Working-class Nigerians do not believe that the government does anything for them so the enticement of voters through a concept known by Nigerians as 'stomach infrastructure' becomes a direct relationship with the poor.
“The wicked leaders impoverish the people, this will make them accept “stomach infrastructure” instead of “good leadership.” The poor (larger population) remains a manipulative tool for the politicians to win elections.”

Recall that Tinubu recently denied distributing bags of rice in some states in northern Nigeria in a statement seen by Legit.ng and signed by his spokesman, Mr. Tunde Rahman three weeks ago.

The statement clarified that Tinubu is not the one funding the initiative while noting that several groups who identify with the former Lagos governor are doing it to show support for APC national leader.

In a related development, serving speakers and their predecessors from the northwest zone of Nigeria have declared their support for Tinubu as the successor to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Their declarations and promises were made weeks after a similar endorsement of Tinubu was carried out by their colleagues in the southwestern region of Nigeria.

At a meeting held in Kano for the states in the northwestern zone on Friday, March 26, the lawmakers declared that Tinubu remains the right person for the presidential ticket of the APC at this time.
