A group, Yoruba Appraisal Forum, YAF, has raised the alarm about an alleged plot by some elements posing as agitators for Yoruba freedom, secession, and self-determination to cause fresh violence and chaos in the southwest region of the country.

YAF alleged that the plot was aimed at instigating bloodshed to achieve their plans to hasten the disintegration of Nigeria.

It further accused the agitators of mobilising youths in the region for more violent protests and bloody confrontation with governmental authorities and security agencies.

YAF national coordinator, Adesina Animashaun, made the comments at a press briefing on Thursday, April 8 in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The Nation quoted Animashaun as saying:

“We want to warn again that the recent violence arising from the activities of these self-styled Yoruba freedom fighters, especially the rash of threats to some other Nigerians residing in Yorubaland by certain individuals, was just the onset of the large scale and widespread violence already scheduled.”

YAF called on the police authorities and security agencies to take appropriate and urgent steps to deal decisively with anyone planning on fomenting trouble in the southwest.

The group added:

“Any Yoruba who has collected money from both local and foreign forces to destabilise the southwest should retrace their steps to avoid the doom awaiting them.
“Those self-styled Yoruba freedom fighters creating tension by engaging in ethnic profiling and evil propaganda against Nigerians of other ethnic stock living in the southwest should desist.

According to Sahara Reporters, Otunba Gani Adams has said the southwest's quest for secession and establishment of Oduduwa Republic is not negotiable.

In an interview with BBC Yoruba, Gani Adams said he is solidly behind Yoruba people in their quest for secession.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has described the late Yinka Odumakin, as an activist who fought endlessly for a great Nigeria and a greater Yoruba race.

Obasa made the remark on Tuesday, April 6 when he led a delegation of lawmakers from the state Assembly to the Lagos home of the bereaved family.

Similarly, the founder of Oodua Peoples Congress, Otunba Gani Adams, has described the demise of Odumakin, as one death too many, saying Yoruba has lost a gem.

Adams said the death of the Afenifere publicity scribe is a big loss to the Yoruba nation, adding that the news has dealt the southwest people a big blow.
