Not less than seven vehicles were engulfed in flames on the ill-fated Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Saturday, March 27.
The tragedy was confirmed by Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, the director-general of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Oke-Osanyintolu reported on the agency's Twitter page that while the inferno has been quenched, efforts to clean up the scene are still ongoing.

The LASEMA boss tweeted:
"The fire involving seven vehicles at the Otedola Bridge area has been doused by @LagosRescue as mop-up is being concluded now with @lasemasocial..."

Although at the time of writing this report, nothing is officially known about the cause of the fire outbreak or if any life was lost in the disaster, pictorial evidence shows it could have been a case of a petrol tanker explosion.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army reported a fire outbreak at its headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday morning, March 2.
A spokesperson for the army, Brigadier General Muhammed Yerima, said the incident occurred at about 10.15am. He said the fire outbreak was caused by a minor electrical fault in one of the offices.
General Yerima disclosed that the fire was put out by the Nigerian Army Fire Service Department He stated that the Army Headquarters complex is currently undergoing renovation. The Army did not report any serious damage following the incident.
Before this, the presidency reacted to the viral reports on social media that occupants of the Aso Rock Villa witnessed a fire outbreak in the premises on Saturday, March 6.
In a tweet on Sunday, March 7, a presidential media aide, Garba Shehu, denied the claim and stated clearly that there was no such incident at the villa.
