Rapid Shooting as Bandits Open Fire on Convoy of Kaduna Emir

- Bandits in Northern Nigeria have continued to carry out deadly attacks

- An official has narrated how armed gunmen tried to force the convoy of the emir of Birnin Gwari to stop

The convoy of the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibril Mai Gwari II, has been attacked by armed bandits.

Daily Trust reported that the gun attack occurred Tuesday evening, March 16, when the vehicles were driving along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway.

Fortunately, reports stated that the monarch was not in any of the vehicles during the attack.

Umar Jibril, the emir’s driver, told the publication that the emir was elsewhere when the bandits struck.

The driver disclosed the attackers opened fire on the vehicles and also threw tree branches on the road in an attempt to force them to stop.

He said:

“We did not stop, they targeted me, since I was driving but as Allah will have it, the bullet missed my head.”

Jibril stated that no casualty was recorded in the attack.

However, Sahara Reporters stated that several vehicles on the emir’s convoy were destroyed by bullets.

The emir of Birnin Gwari was one of the top traditional rulers who recently held a virtual meeting with the Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over the security situation in the state.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna state government has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in Kajuru council of the state.

According to The Nation, the government gave the order following series of attempts to kidnap primary and secondary school pupils.

The directive was reportedly issued in a memo by Abigail Adze, the director of quality assurance authority.

In another report, the federal government has been advised against the payment of ransom at random to kidnappers in the country.

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria's former vice president made the plea in a series of tweets on Monday, March 15, via his verified official handle @atiku.

The former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate gave the advice in reaction to the recent abduction of teachers and some school pupils in Kaduna state.
