COVID-19 vaccine: Governors’ wives beg FG not to sideline women
- The government has been asked to ensure that women are vaccinated against COVID-19
- This appeal was made by Nigerian Governors’ Wives Forum as the distribution of the vaccine takes pole position in the country
- Going further, the women promised to receive the vaccine to show that it is good for consumption

The federal government has been urged not to forget women as the distribution of COVID-19 vaccination commences.
They urged the government to ensure that women are not sidelined in any way.
This appeal was made in a statement to commemorate 2021 International Women’s Day on Monday, March 8, Punch reports.
The governors' wives also promised to take the vaccine to show people that it is safe to get vaccinated.
Those who signed the statement included Erelu Bisi Fayemi, Dr Amina Abubakar Bello and Mrs Betsy Obaseki.

The statement read in part:
“The vaccine should not be yet another resource that women do not have easy access to in Nigeria. We also urge all women to take the vaccine when it is available, we ourselves will be taking the vaccine to demonstrate that it is safe."
Going further, they promised to support their husbands and remind them of their obligations towards the security, protection, and empowerment of citizens, especially women.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had also reported that a number of top government officials have taken their first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in continuation of the national vaccination exercise.
Among those who received the jab at the State House, Abuja were presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, and chief of staff to the president, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
Others were permanent secretary State House, Tijjani Umar and chairman and chief executive officer, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd).
Also, the presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday, March 6, led by example by being the first to take the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
Lauretta Onochie, a presidential media aide, in her tweet said Nigerians should join her principal and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to kick out the pandemic by getting vaccinated also.
Onochie also slammed some detractors of the president who prayed that he should die of the vaccine after taking the jab.
