The 26-year old was notably quiet as Manchester United played out two draws against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Despite scoring 22 goals and making 40 appearances this season, many have taken aim at the superstar for performances against the traditional Premier League Big Six.

This season, Fernandes only has one goal against the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham , Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool combined.

That goal came from the penalty spot as United lost 6-1 to Mourinho’s Spurs earlier in the season.

Speaking on the criticism for his performances in the big games, Fernandes said,

“I know people expect me to score and assist in every game but for me the most important thing as a player I don’t look at the Big Six, I look at all the games the same way,”

He was also quick to admit he didn’t necessarily great against Chelsea and Crystal Palace but was also critical of former professionals who are on his neck about ‘big’ performances.

“Sometimes I’m sad about people who know about football talking (criticizing) when some of them were players in the past. Football is not about (one) moment. It is about all of them.

Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes defends Cristiano Ronaldo with thinly-veiled swipe at Juventus

Professionals like former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Meulensteen believe Bruno’s rut during the big games is because he ‘is trying too hard’.

The superstar is so crucial for his club that Solskjaer is considering blocking him from heading out on international duty.

UK’s current coronavirus restrictions suggest that Premier League stars travelling for international duty in countries in the ‘red list’ would need to quarantine for 10 days upon their return.
