- The PDP's reconciliation team led by Saraki has turned its attention to Nigeria's former president, Obasanjo
- Saraki and other members of the team are meeting with the former president in Abeokuta
- Details of the meeting are yet to be out at the time of filing this report
Bukola Saraki, the president of the eighth Senate is currently in a closed-door meeting with Nigeria's former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
Saraki’s convoy arrived at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta around mid-noon on Tuesday, March 2.
Immediately after his arrival, Saraki who is the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s reconciliation committee went into a closed-door session with Obasanjo at his Pent House.
Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo's media aide sent to Legit.ng the photo of his principal with the former Senate president as they exchanged pleasantries.
According to the media aide, members of Saraki's team include PDP chieftains such as Ibrahim Shehu Shema, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo, Liyel Imoke, Mulikat Akande Adeola, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
Recall that Obasanjo, who served his two terms as president under the PDP, tore his membership card publicly in the buildup to the 2015 elections.
The former president subsequently endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 elections.
He, however, withdrew his support for President Buhari prior to the 2019 elections and later said he would no longer be involved in partisan politics.
During the meeting, the former president charged Bello to keep with his good efforts at protecting his state.
It's, however, noted that there are strong speculations that Governor Bello is also interested in the 2023 elections.
Speaking at the meeting between Obasanjo and Governor Bello, Femi Fani-Kayode, a PDP chieftain, said the Kogi state governor is a blessed man.
He wrote on Twitter:
"Beautiful shot and pregnant with meaning! When both PMB and OBJ honor and respect you then you are truly blessed. I am happy for you my brother Yahaya. Let God's will be done!"
