Eddie Murphy lists favourite black celebrities of all time, says Muhammad Ali was his greatest inspiration

- Celebrated American actor, Eddie Murphy, has revealed his favourite black celebrities

- The 59-year-old actor said that they are the black icons who have inspired him in his career and thinks they are pure geniuses

- He also remembered his late elder brother Charlie Murphy and shared how they once took up a basketball challenge against the late Prince

Veteran actor, Eddie Murphy, has disclosed what he thinks of his favourite black celebrities even as African Americans in the US celebrate black history month.

The Coming to America star shared a list of creatives he believes are the greatest of all time and also added what he thinks of them.

The 59-year-old actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where he told the host who his biggest inspiration is.

"Muhammad Ali is my hero. There is no other person who inspired me more in life like Muhammad Ali. I think he is the greatest African American who ever lived and ever will.

No one had the impact like he did. I did get to hand out with him, I met him a few times and he gave me this cool plaque with gloves on it for my 40th birthday," he said.

The actor and Jimmy also reminisced one time the late fighter pretended to be asleep during an interview and laughed about how Ali had a great sense of humour.

"That is the beautiful thing about him, he was always Ali. Even when his health started to fail, that spirit was still there. I love him so much."

They then talked about other black icons in the music industry including Stevie Wonder and the late Prince.

Murphy said:

"Stevie is an old friend and I love him. He is a real genius. If you around him you will notice that too. When you see him, especially if you are around him and he is doing something with music, you will be blown away, you do not even have to there, you just have to be around him."

The actor mentioned that of all the artistes he has met, only Prince, Stevie Wonder, and McCartney were real geniuses.

The two also talked about the actor's late elder brother Charlie Murphy who died of leukaemia in 2017.

Eddie shared a story about how Prince and his late brother challenged him and other guys on the basketball pitch and one of the good guys in his team had no shoes on, so Prince offered him his shoes.

Despite the guy having bigger feet than Prince, he wore the sneakers because they were from his icon star.
