Frank Lampard is walking a tightrope following Chelsea's poor run of form in recent weeks.

The Blues have failed to replicate their form from the opening weeks of the season, with their campaign taking a nosedive since Boxing Day.

The west London side failed to build on their previous two wins to suffer a 2-0 defeat in the hands of high-flying Leicester City on Tuesday night, January 19.

Upcoming fixtures include a home tie against out of form Wolves on Wednesday, January 27, before taking on relegation-threatened Burnley the following weekend at Stamford Bridge.

However, Lampard will be keen to have his side build confidence when they play minnows Luton Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup set for Sunday, January 24.

After the Burnley tie, the Blues will have to contend with a daunting trip to Tottenham on Thursday, February 4, a fixture that could potentially decide Lampard's future.

Despite splashing over £200 million on an array of new players in the summer, the west London side find themselves languishing in eighth on the charts having lost five of their last eight games.

And with Lampard running out of time to steady the ship, it is believed Chelsea have already lined up a number of potential candidates who could replace the embattled Englishman.

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is thought to be on the shortlist after a defining season with the Saints alongside fellow countryman Thomas Tuchel who was recently sacked at Paris Saint-Germain.

RB Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann is also understood to be in the frame for the Stamford Bridge hotseat.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Chelsea may not kick Frank Lampard out of the club despite his poor run of results in his last eight matches.

The Blues have only won two matches in eight so far since their blistering form in the Premier League from late October and early December.

It is understood club owner Roman Abramovich is in no rush to sack and replace the English boss in his second season at Stamford Bridge.
