Chelsea defender finally told he is not in Lampard's plans, set to join another Premier League club

Giroud started the new campaign on a slow note but later picked up the pace scoring eight goals in his last eight matches under Frank Lampard.

The Frenchman hit four goals past Sevilla in their last Champions League group game last month and recently against Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Since Giroud's 2018 departure from Arsenal to west London, the France international has scored 37 goals in 103 matches playing as a second choice striker.

And his recent impressive form have caught the eye of two-time Champions League finalists Atletico who are in search of a new forward after terminating Costa's contract.

Luis Suarez and Joao Felix are the only strikers left in the club and Giroud would fit into the mix as traditional No.9.

However, it is understood the World Cup winner will be fighting for his place at Stamford Bridge particularly as Timo Werner has failed to hit the target in 12 consecutive matches.
