A source quoted in the report said:

“The money came in since yesterday afternoon but they refused to share it to the people it was meant for. So, the thief came in the night and destroyed the keys and gained access to the office of the secretary to the CPS.
“This is not the first time the government house press centre is being robbed. We have lost about three Plasma televisions, one at the reception, one in the reporter’s office and the other in the office used by cameramen. In all of these, no meeting, no replacement.”

It was learnt that except at the entrance gate of the government house, no security camera is located anywhere at the centre, as such, tracing the criminal or criminals was nearly impossible.

When contacted, the governor's spokesman confirmed the incident but assured that those who were meant to be paid would get their money.

The incident comes days after Governor Emmanuel swore-in newly-elected local government chairmen and vice-chairmen for the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom state.

During the swearing-in ceremony, the governor tasked the elected officials to focus on service to the people rather than engage in unproductive partisanship.

Governor Emmanuel also used the opportunity to debunk speculations that his administration was seizing local government funds, saying the rumour was the handwork of jobless youths in the state used by embittered politicians to share fake news.

Meanwhile, angry youths, on Monday, December 7 destroyed the house of Benue state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Abba Yaro.

The irate youths carried out the action over the sudden death of one of Comrade Yaro's domestic workers.

They smashed windows, destroyed cars and air conditioners in the premises of the APC chairman in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.
