Lionel Messi and his Barcelona teammates have been slammed for leaving 17-year-old Pedri to conduct an interview with the press after their loss to Atletico Madrid.

It was the first time in Diego Simeone's career that his team would defeat La Blaugrana in La Liga following a lone strike from Yannick Carrasco.

The loss was at the Wanda Metropolitano Barcelona's second of the season under Ronald Koeman as they maintain tenth spot with two matches at hand.

One fan wrote:

“Messi, Pique and Barcelona's other captains sent a non Spanish speaking debutante Dest out to face the press after their Clasico loss instead of acting like leaders and today they sent out their new 17-year old youngster Pedri in his first game vs Atletico after this loss.”

A second said:

“Atleti beats Barcelona and the only one that shows up to face the media is the teenager Pedri.
“What a disgrace the club has turned into.”

A third commented:

"Messi is the captain of the club but Pedri is the one doing the interviews.
" State of this club man..."

Another added:

"No captain, no veteran, but Pedri, 17, is doing the post-match interview after an important loss.
"What a shame."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Barcelona defender Gerard Pique could be facing a long time out of action after picking up a knee injury in his club's 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Ronaldo Koeman, Barcelona's manager, confirmed the knee injury to Pique after the game but did not specify the seriousness as he also expressed worries over Roberto's injury.

Koeman said after the game: "The injuries to Pique and Sergi Roberto are worrying me. We look forward to seeing the results after tomorrow to know how long they will be out for."
