The Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to review the report of Governor Nasir El-Rufai's committee established in 2017 on restructuring immediately.
The group who made the call after a meeting at the residence of its leader, Senator Olabiyi Durojaiye, noted that the country would be saved from further social disaster, The Guardian reports.
In a communiqué signed by the group's leader, Durojaiye, and secretary, Bayo Aina, Afenifere went on to note that reviewing the report of the committee should be with a view to presenting it for legislation to move Nigeria forward.
While commending all the southwest governors for their proactiveness following the EndSARS protests, the Yoruba socio-cultural group added that the southwest governors’ initiative in establishing “Amotekun” was justified.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that El-Rufai called for the restructuring of Nigeria in a way that would enable equitable distribution of resources.
The governor made the call during his speech at a public lecture to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Arewa House in Kaduna state on Saturday, October 31.
He said it was time to restructure the country in a manner that will empower states with constitutional control over certain resources.
The governor explained that restructuring should allow states to have more powers over the police, oil and gas resources, minerals, among others.
In a related development, Nigerian Christian cleric, Tunde Bakare, revealed what must be done to the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government for the fast actualisation of the restructuring of Nigeria.
Pastor Bakare said that pressure should be mounted on the current administration for the leadership to hasten up to do the needful.
