- A Nigerian lady, Mary Otunba, has graduated from Caleb University Business School with a 5.0 CGPA
- Mary's success did not come on a silver platter as she had to work really hard for it, forsaking many gratifications
- To be able to sponsor herself for both her ICAN and degree, she had to use a low-cost phone for years
A lady, Mary Otunba, has risen above all her past challenges in life to achieve greatness. She said that though she did not want to attend a polytechnic, she was grateful her dad encouraged her to do so.
After graduating, the lady was confused about what next to do with her life. Luck later smiled on her as she got an internship with a big company.
Just when she was preparing for her Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) exams, she got to know of a distance learning program at Caleb University.
With her father’s death and nobody to sponsor her, many advised her to take it one at a time. To achieve what she wanted, Mary delayed some basic comforts.
Mary said that she had to use a torchlight phone for two years so can get her bills paid. That was not all, the hardworking lady also slept in an uncompleted building for months so that she would not be far from her workplace.
In a LinkedIn post, the lady appreciated friends who provided her with food and clothes during that trying time. In 2019, she became a chartered accountant.
In 2020, Mary became the best graduating student in her department with an incredible 5.0 CGPA. She said:
“My experience over the years had thought me that life is in phases. All I need is to enjoy every bit of it cos they are not meant to last forever.”
