Police brutality: Sanwo-Olu names officers who harassed #EndSARS protesters

- Governor Sanwo-Olu has identified the police operatives who were involved in brutalising protesters in Lagos

- According to the governor, four officers have been arrested and will face an orderly room trial

- Sanwo-Olu also warned against attacks on people during the #EndSARS protests in Lagos state

Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed the identities of policemen who harassed Surulere #EndSARS protesters at Area C Command of Lagos state.

Sanwo-Olu, on his official Twitter page @jidesanwoolu, on Thursday, October 15, listed the officers as Bagou Michael, Ekpoudom Etop, Nnamdi Majura, and Akinyemi Benson.

The governor speaking at a media briefing noted that the officers have all been arrested and would be facing an orderly room trial immediately.

He also added that a panel has been set up to look into all cases of police brutality and fatality as well as instituting a N200m compensation fund.

While apologizing to protesters who have faced brutality during any of the #EndSARS protests days, Sanwo-Olu warned against any attacks on individuals in the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed details of his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on the way forward after the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The governor said that during his talk with the president, he restated his commitment to embark on a total reform of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

Moreover, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that as part of his resolution, President Buhari has approved the setting up of a panel consisting of leaders of civil society groups that will take an objective look into cases of abuse in the force.

In a related development, the governor of Lagos state on Monday, October 12, ordered the state police commissioner to release all arrested protesters.

This was revealed in a tweet shared on the official Twitter handle of the governor @jidesanwoolu. The Nigerian police based on the governor's directive released the people who were arrested during the #EndSARS protests.
