Rio Ferdinand has backed Man United, City and Chelsea to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League crown next season.

Liverpool will be keen to reclaim the title which they won last season after a scintillating campaign that saw them finish top with 99 points.

A massive 18 points separated title-winners The Reds and closest challengers Man City as Jürgen Klopp led the Anfield outfit to triumph for the first time since 1990.

A number of pundits have since written off Liverpool's chances of recapturing the trophy, with some tipping Man City to return to winning ways.

However, Ferdinand believes it will not be a walk in the park for every other team challenging for the crown, insisting Liverpool could well defend the crown.

The former defender added the Merseyside club have that chance should their key players stay injury-free.

"If they can continue to keep those players fit, I don’t see Liverpool being stopped this season, but it is unlikely that will happen year after year," Rio told TeamTalk as cited by Metro UK.

"If things change with the personnel, it opens it up for the other teams and not just Man City," the Premier League agent added.

The 2020/21 season will officially kick off on Saturday, September 12, with newly-promoted Fulham hosting Arsenal in the curtain-raiser.
