Do not display cowardice on war front - Buratai warns commanders

The Nigerian Army has warned commanders against displaying acts of cowardice on the war front.
The warning was issued by the chief of army staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, during an assessment tour of the ongoing VT4 Main Battle Tank training where 155 officers and soldiers were undergoing, This Day reported.
Buratai urged participants of the training to maintain discipline and professionalism wherever they are assigned.

He said the officers must operate and handle the new equipment proficiently.
Recently, 17 sophisticated armoured tanks and artillery vehicles from China were delivered to Nigeria
The equipment includes heavy tanks, light tanks and heavy artillery guns.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's military authority has been urged to recruit additional 100,000 soldiers. The call was made by the House of Representatives.
According to the House, this will make up for the shortfall in manpower that has overstretched the military in its fight against insecurity in the country.
The call was part of a recommendation by the House Committee on Army.
Going further, the house urged the Army to recall retired officers and men and keep them on reserve for use when needed, Daily Trust reports.
This, however, should be based on the condition that they are physically fit and not above 50 years of age, chairman, House Committee on Army, Abdulrazak Namdaz who presented the report before the House said.
In another report, a group, Nigeria Arise Against Crime (NAAC) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack the current military chiefs to save Nigeria and his administration from the embarrassment of losing several lives to insurgents and banditry on a daily basis.
The group made the call on Thursday, June 4 in Abuja at a press conference addressed by its national coordinator, Dr Yusuf Kazeem.
According to Kazeem, the continued retention of the security chiefs is “a disservice to the nation's security framework.”
His words: “Imperial facts available to us shows that the service chiefs have exhausted their wit. Nothing new is been done to add vigour to the fight against insurgents, bandits and other criminal elements.
“However, to create an impression that the war is being won, the military chiefs and its collaborators in the corridors of power have engaged propagandist using the media to give Nigeria and the world false impression.

“The chief of army staff's relocation to the northeast is one of the many antics as it has not helped in any way but given a fresh angle to propaganda and sympathy seeking.”
It further added that the fact that bandits have killed hundreds of people in Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara states amongst other places in the last few days despite the army's claim of carrying series of airstrikes says a lot.
Still on security, the Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian military troops for their efforts towards ending the war against insurgency in the last five years.
CESJET made this known in its five-year assessment report on President Buhari’s administration in the war against terrorism and the accompanying efforts of the Nigerian army .
The centre said President Buhari has earned plaudits from Nigerians and the international community for dramatically halting the once growing spate of Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks in the country.
CESJET also extolled chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai for aligning with the vision of the president, showcasing exemplary leadership, commitment and doggedness in the theatre of operations.
