Former Nigerian striker Daniel Amokachi has explained that Brown Ideye should not have been left out of the Super Eagles squad that campaigned at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

This is indirectly questioning the selection of former coach Stephen Keshi who was his ex teammate while playing for the national team.

After winning the 2013 African Nations Cup title in South Africa where Sunday Mba scored the winner for Nigeria in the final, Stephen Keshi was given the chance to take Eagles to Brazil.

The Nigeria Football Federation were impressed with Super Eagles' performances winning the 2013 Nations Cup.

But while going to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Brown Ideye who was a member of the Nations Cup winning squad was dropped despite playing well in the qualifiers.

The likes of AFCON hero Sunday Mba, Ikechukwu Uche, John Ogu, Nnamdi Oduamadi were also dropped from traveling with the Super Eagles to the World Cup.

One player who was taken to the World Cup which brought some arguments among Nigerians and pundits was former Kano Pillars midfielder Gabriel Reuben.

Reuben was taken to Brazil despite nursing an ankle injury and was unable to play any game for the Super Eagles.

“Some players had no business going to the 2014 World Cup

“One player who should have been part of the team is Brown Ideye unfortunately he was dropped for some players who shouldn’t have gone to the World Cup.”

“But truth is I wasn’t the coach, I was not in charge of picking the players,''. Amokachi explained according to the report on Complete Sports.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles faced Argentina, Iran and Bosnia in the Group stages where they managed to reach the knock out before losing against France.
