NYSC denies using corps members' allowance to tackle coronavirus

- NYSC says it does not intend to channel the February allowance of corps members towards the coronavirus cause

- The scheme described the information that corps members allowances would be used to tackle coronavirus as a 'false representation by the fabricators'

- NYSC says the welfare of the corps members is paramount to the government, warning those who fabricated the hard joke to desist or face the wrath of the law

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked a fake press release purported to have been issued by the scheme's director-general Shuaibu Ibrahim which claimed the February allowances of the youth corps would be channelled towards curbing coronavirus.

NYSC dusted the misleading insinuation while clearing the air in a statement by the scheme's hierarchy on Monday, March 2, PR Nigeria reports.

The scheme said the rumour is a 'false representation' of its image by 'fabricators' who are bent on bringing the image of the institution into disrepute, adding that such statement cannot be issued by its director.

"To all intents and purposes, the false representation by the fabricators of that mischievous post smacks of insensitivity.

"A global issue such as the Coronavirus which represents a threat to humanity should not be reduced to an object of joke," NYSC said.

The scheme urged all corps members to disregard the false information while also promising to accord top priority to their welfare.

"The management of the National Youth Service Corps and indeed the federal government shall continue to accord top priority to the welfare of corps members.

"While urging corps members to disregard the ill-conceived post, management strongly admonishes mischief makers to desist from generating and circulating false stories on the scheme.

The hierarchy of the body vowed that the full weight of the law shall be visited on anyone caught in the act henceforth.
